Los favoritos de Bodegas Murviedro para James Suckling
Single-Vineyard Wines: Finca El Serrano, Cañada La Torre and Vallejo Avenas, together with Murviedro Pasión, are the excellent wines features in the latest publication by the influential American wine critic based in Hong Kong

Requena, 8 July 2024 – Ever since James Suckling tasted Bodegas Murviedro’s wines, he has continued to write positive comments about them and award them the highest scores. The recent publication by the renowned wine critic has highlighted Bodegas Murviedro once again, consolidating its reputation in the wine industry.

Among the wines assessed, Finca El Serrano, made from Monastrell grapes, increases its rating with the new 2021 vintage and achieves an excellent 92 points, followed by Cañada La Torre Malvasía 2022, with 91 points. Vallejo Avenas Chardonnay 2022 and Murviedro Pasión Monastrell & Garnacha 2022 are also both considered outstanding, with 90 points.

These magnificent scores underline Bodegas Murviedro’s continued commitment to quality and excellence in the production of its wines, confirming its prestige in the international arena.

Finca el Serrano 2021 (DOP Alicante) achieves the excellent score of 92 points. It is made with Monastrell, the queen of Mediterranean black grapes. This is a Single-Vineyard Wine, made with grapes from a vineyard with chalky soil, ideal for obtaining wines of excellent quality. The low production guarantees bunches with highly concentrated sugars and acidity. Fermentation begins spontaneously, with wild yeasts from the natural environment. The wine is aged for six months in French oak foudres.

Suckling notes in his comments that “This is a serious Monastrell that’s more about the structure and tension than the jammy fruit. Medium-bodied and intense, with a naturally high concentration of fruit, fibrous tannins and a long finish.” He mentions the hint of fruit and the wine’s mineral character: “Tasty red plums, dried fruit, orange peel, sweet baking spices and dry earth on the nose.” And he singles it out as an “outstanding example” made with this variety.

Cañada La Torre 2022, (DOP Valencia), 91 points. A Single-Vineyard Wine made from Malvasía, one of the legendary white grape varieties of the Mediterranean Arc.

It is a wine with “a sort of seriousness that makes it an engaging Malvasia” says Suckling of this Cañada La Torre, with “lifted and exotic aromas of white pears, fresh grapes, pollen and white pepper” and light touches of peach.

Vallejo Avenas 2022, (DOP Utiel-Requena) Single-Vineyard Wine 90 points. A Chardonnay that stands out for its “attractive nose of lemon rind, peaches, pineapples and smoked almonds. More mineral on the palate with a medium to full body and a chalky undertone”.

Murviedro Pasión Monastrell & Garnacha 2022, (PDO Valencia), 90 points. A splendid blend of organically grown Monastrell and Garnacha grapes at their optimum ripening point and, like all the previous wines, suitable for vegans.

This wine has charmed the tastebuds of the American critic for its aromas and flavour that recall “Ripe raspberries and dark cherries with hints of chocolate and licorice. Vivid and succulent on the palate with medium body and supple tannins.” He likes it for being “flavorful and easy to drink”.

These are undoubtedly very important ratings from outside Spain, where it is difficult to stand out among a large number of wines of excellent quality. These results reflect the effort Bodegas Murviedro devotes to creating exceptional wines so that consumers and enthusiasts can continue enjoying distinctive flavours that continue to set trends around the world.
