Bodegas Murviedro has been awarded seven golds in Mundus Vini and Berliner Wein Trophy, the most prestigious competitions in Germany.

Valencia, March 12th, 2019.- Bodegas Murviedro’s human team is overjoyed with the first prizes won in the current year, and with good reason. They have won SEVEN medals in the GOLD category in two of the most important international contests in the world, held in Germany: the Mundus Vini, at which 7,000 wines have been presented this time round, and the Berliner Wein Trophy.

Sericis Cepas Viejas Monastrell 2015 won Gold Medal in both, while Luna de Murviedro Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc carried it away in Mundus Vini. The rest of the Golds were for various wines from the Murviedro Colección range, much appreciated in German homes, a type of consumer that knows and values the quality of Mediterranean assemblages.

Three magnificent Golds at Mundus Vini

Sericis Cepas Viejas Monastrell 2015 stands out on this occasion, doing a double by carrying away Gold in both competitions. Sericis Cepas Viejas Monastrell brings honour to its name, which means “silky” in Latin. It is an aromatic red, gentle on the palate and very gastronomic, made with Monastrell, a traditional red varietal of DOP Alicante. The old vines, goblet-trained and strictly rain-fed, bear less than 2 kilos of grapes per plant.

Murviedro Colección Crianza 2016 harvested a Gold at Mundus Vini too, as well as being designated the “Best Spanish Red in the Shops”. It is a DOP Valencia red assemblage of Tempranillo, Monastrell and Syrah in just the right proportions to make it a full, elegant wine with aromas of ripe fruit over a balsamic base, recalling toasted notes of the barrel. Gentle on the palate with a velvety passage.

So did Luna de Murviedro Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, an exquisite, fresh and light sparkling wine elaborated with the Charmat short method. The grapes are 100% Sauvignon Blanc, and the wine turns out to be perfect as an apéritif, and even to accompany all types of fish, seafood and desserts. Of course, it must be served very cold.

Four Golds at Berliner Wein Trophy

These significant success stories join hands with the Golds won at Berliner Wein Trophy, where Sericis Cepas Viejas Monastrell 2015 has also been awarded, reinforcing the value of this wine as it competes and triumphs among the world’s best wines, twice.

Murviedro Colección Reserva 2015 wins Gold for the second year running. It is made with Tempranillo, Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon, thought out to be a real Reserva DOP Valencia: a ripe, polished, broad, unctuous and very long red; a rounded wine that fills the palate with nuances.

Murviedro Colección Reserva Bobal 2015 is a single-variety wine that demonstrates all the quality potential of DOP Utiel-Requena’s native grape. A red wine with a beautiful cherry red colour, complex aroma and pleasant notes of red fruit over a toasted and balsamic base. It has body and structure, but is amiable on the palate, proffering rounded tannins and a long finish in the mouth.

The seventh Gold, as important as the first, was for Murviedro Colección Syrah 2018. A DOP Valencia 100% Syrah wine, the aristocrat of the Rhône valley grapes which unwinds itself through the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. This variety has also acclimatised to the vineyards of our land. A red wine of dark, cherry red colour with purplish hues and an intense aroma of red fruit, blackberries and blackcurrants. Dense on the palate, flavoursome, balanced, with good weight of fruit and very long.

These seven Gold medals awarded to the wines by blind tasting are the final result of the work of a whole team of people who dedicate their effort, in the field, at the winery, in management and distribution, to the end customer’s enjoyment. That is the reason that Bodegas Murviedro’s wines are to be found in the best shops and restaurants of the five continents.
