La Bodega Histórica de Murviedro consigue el distintivo SICTED de Calidad Turística

The Secretary of State for Tourism grants the Murviedro Historic Winery the SICTED (Integrated Spanish Tourism Destination Quality System) seal, confirming the excellence of the attraction.

Requena, 18 January 2024.- The Murviedro Historical Winery has just received the SICTED Tourism Quality Commitment mark, an award that accredits and recognises the effort it makes in providing tourist services.

SICTED (a Spanish acronym meaning Integrated Spanish Tourism Destination Quality System) is always synonymous with excellence. The project is intended to improve the quality of tourist destinations and is promoted by the Office of the Spanish Secretary of State for Tourism (SETUR), with the support of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), which works with tourist services from up to 37 different industries related to tourism to improve tourists’ experiences and satisfaction levels.

The programme establishes a working method with best practice guides that must be implemented and audited. These provide a permanent, comprehensive quality management system for tourist destinations.

The Valencian Regional Tourism Secretary, Cristina Moreno, took part in the presentation ceremony for the SICTED Tierra Bobal 2023 awards on 10 January in Villargordo del Cabriel, together with the mayor of the town, Galo Valle, and the president of the Tierra del Vino Inland Association Luis Francisco López.

Marc Grin, Managing Director of Murviedro and the driving force behind the project, was enthusiastic about achieving this important quality mark.“Because it is much more than a recognition of our historical involvement with this region, it is confirmation that we are on the path to excellence in producing wines from this land and looking after the people who visit us,” he said.

Murviedro Historic Winery: heritage to enjoy with your family

The Historic Murviedro Winery, inaugurated in 2017 as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Bodegas Murviedro in the Valencian region, is a project based on an imposing house-museum with a fascinating area of intricate galleries in its basement.

They have had different uses throughout history: as a water and food store, a shelter, and a wine production site over several centuries. The building illustrates the history of La Villa in Requena and its connection with grape growing and wine production, as well as its role as part of the Silk Road during the 17th century.

The Historic Winery receives around 700 visits every month, with annual numbers limited to 10,000 people to maintain small groups of up to 12. It is worth noting the continuing improvement in the quality of the wine tourism attracted to the museum, as most visitors now choose the Premium option. The winery’s priority is not to attract large numbers, but rather to offer personalised experiences and share our passion for wine and history with those who visit us.

A highlight is Murviedro’s flagship La Casa de la Seda wine. This iconic red is made on the ground floor of the Historic Winery with grapes from ancient vines growing on El Ardal estate, which were saved from being grubbed up in 2015. This wine, produced in an artisanal way, is a unique representative of the region’s winemaking tradition. A visit to the Historic Winery is ideal to be enjoyed with a partner, friends or as a family, exploring the alleyways of the medieval fortified district of La Villa, in Requena.

Save the date!

Last April, the Historic Winery expanded the services it offers with a glamorous wine shop, where you can find the wide range of wines made by Murviedro, together with those from LoAlto and a selection of the Schenk Group’s Swiss, French and Italian wines, making a total of about 50. Visitors can also try wines by the glass, and themed tastings are organised.

On 23 February at 7 pm there will be a hosted themed tasting of the five wines making up the Sericis Cepas Viejas range: our silkiest wines, reflecting the essence of our land. The experience includes snacks and costs €25 per person. Advance booking is essential.
