Murviedro triumphs again in Bordeaux with four Gold Medals at the Challenge International Du Vin

Murviedro vuelve a triunfar en Burdeos con cuatro Medallas de ORO del Challenge International Du Vin
The Vallejo Avenas and Finca El Serrano single-vineyard wines (vinos de parcela) are recognised for their quality at the prestigious international challenge

Requena, 23 May 2023.- Murviedro has triumphed once again in Bordeaux in the oldest wine competition in France and one of the most prestigious anywhere in the world: the Challenge International Du Vin.

A few days ago, we received the news that our Vallejo Avenas 2021 (DO Utiel-Requena) had been proclaimed best aged Chardonnay in Spain, as it was the only one of its kind awarded Grand Gold at the Bacchus Awards. Now it has been recognised with a Gold Medal at the Challenge International Du Vin held in Bordeaux. This is one of Murviedro’s single-vineyard wines – in this case made with grapes from one vineyard in Venta del Moro, at an altitude of 740 metres.

It is a wine that goes well with good food, capable of accompanying a wide variety of dishes because of its smoothness, body and magnificent, balanced freshness. Sensations of citrus and mango predominate in its fruity aromas, with a particularly good balance between fruit and wood from the aging process. It is fresh, silky on the palate, with just the right degree of smoothness and good acidity. It is a well-structured and balanced wine, with a long, saline, mineral finish.

Finca El Serrano 2020 (DO Alicante) is another single-vineyard wine awarded a Gold Medal in Bordeaux. It is a Monastrell from a vineyard in the highest part of the El Serrano estate. This has the poorest soils in terms of nutrients: a stony glacis with limestone bedrock very close to the surface.

The wine has a very intense aroma dominated by ripe fruit, with balsamic and limestone mineral notes on a background of highly elegant, toasted oak. It is meaty, complex and unctuous in the mouth, with balanced tannins and a roasted finish. A serious, elegant, evocative wine that features on the best dining tables, with its magnificent deep structure and drinkable Mediterranean character.

As well as this recently received Gold Medal from Bordeaux, Finca El Serrano 2020 in this, its first vintage, has been awarded 90 points and a Gold Medal in the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2022 in France, and 90 points and a Gold Medal in the Berliner Wein Trophy 2022 in Germany.

The Murviedro Collection range boasts other Gold Medals

Two of the wines from the Murviedro Collection range have also been awarded Gold Medals. One of them is the Murviedro Colección Reserva 2018 (DO Valencia), made with Tempranillo, Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A ripe, smooth wine, aged for at least 12 months in American oak barrels, with elegant aromas of fruit compote over balsamic notes (vanilla, tobacco and cocoa). It is broad, rounded and unctuous on the palate with a very long finish. This top-class wine is an excellent accompaniment to highly elaborate dishes based on meat, roasts and mature cheeses.

The other Gold Medal is for the Murviedro Colección Crianza 2019 (DO Valencia). It is a blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell and Syrah grapes, obtaining a well rounded, structured wine that is aged for at least six months in American oak barrels. In the glass, its elegance is notable, with aromas of ripe fruit on a balsamic background (undergrowth) and toasted wood. It is soft and rounded in the mouth, with a velvety palate and polished tannins. An ideal wine to go with red meats, roasts and mature cheeses.
