The white Cañada La Torre, made from the legendary Malvasía grape variety, and the red CV05 Cabernet Sauvignon join Vallejo Avenas Chardonnay in expressing their terroir.

Requena, 10 November 2021 – Bodegas Murviedro has presented two new single-vineyard wines. The white Cañada La Torre Malvasía and the red CV05 Cabernet Sauvignon were launched yesterday, together with the new vintage of Vallejo Avenas Chardonnay, at the Hotel Valencia Palace. The event was a great success for getting to know these wines for the first time. A certain amount of expectancy had been already been created among the specialised press, sommeliers and hospitality professionals because Cañada La Torre has just won its first international trophy: now less than a gold medal at the Berliner Wein Trophy.

This select range has an elegant, exclusive, sophisticated style, which is both classic and modern. They come in customised burgundy bottles, with labels containing all the keys needed to interpret each wine. Each bottle is numbered because they are limited editions. The image illustrating them is an artistic recreation of a map of the plots on the site.

Murviedro’s single-vineyard wines are the result of meticulous research carried out over the last few years to identify the parcels with components that make them stand out from other plots around them. Over successive vintages they have produced wines that not only show exceptional quality, but also possess certain characteristics making them different from the standard styles for each varietal.

These three single-vineyard wines make up Murviedro’s Premium range, along with the legendary Casa de La Seda, a single-variety Bobal from almost century-old vines on the El Ardal estate, planted in 1923.

CAÑADA LA TORRE MALVASÍA 2020

Cañada La Torre 2020 is a DO Valencia white wine made with grapes of the legendary Malvasía variety from a single parcel of just 2 hectares planted in 1995 among almond fields and holm oak forest at the remarkable altitude of 1,090 metres (3,500 feet) on the Valencian plateau.

Because of its age, there are a large number of clones of this grape variety. This one in particular is very rich in terpenes and has a strong skin, making it highly resistant to disease. This allows balanced ripening of the grapes.

The secret of Cañada La Torre Malvasía 2020 lies in the origin of the grapes, the terroir, the natural sandy and silty soil, their organic cultivation, and a winemaking process based on minimal intervention to reflect their unique character. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts. The wine rests on its fine lees and it is aged for four months in French oak foudres before bottling. The result is a very distinctive, complex wine, with aromas reminiscent of a variety of ripe fruits and hints of flowers and dried fruit. It is flavourful, unctuous and fresh, with a long finish.

CV05 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2020

CV05 is the name of the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard plot that grows the grapes used to make this refined red wine with a Bordeaux heart and a Mediterranean soul. The grapes come from a parcel in the southwest of the Valencian region and are bottled under the DO Valencia. The small plot covering just 4 hectares that produces this single-vineyard wine lies on chalky soil very poor in organic matter, but with great vine-growing potential.

The sustainable viticulture practices used to care for the vines ultimately shape the elegant personality of this exceptional Cabernet, which satisfies lovers of the variety and delights everyone who tastes it. Its excellent natural acidity is in balance with the ideal ripening point of the grapes.

The CV05 Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is medium-high intensity red in colour with hints of violet. Its aroma is intense, with a predominance of aromas reminiscent of red fruits on a spicy background. The palate faithfully reveals the terroir where the grapes were grown. The entry on the palate is pleasant, broad and slightly warm, with silky tannins. The wine is flavourful, filling the mouth with a range of ripe fruit sensations, with a hint of sweetness, like redcurrant jam. It has good acidity and freshness with a slight suggestion of minerals. The finish is long and quite persistent.

VALLEJO AVENAS CHARDONNAY 2020

The grapes used to make this DO Utiel Requena wine are harvested from the plot with the same name in the municipality of Venta del Moro. This vineyard lies on a limestone plateau – a very poor soil whose particular feature is the superimposition of limestone horizons, red clay loams and fine sandstones formed in the Tertiary period.

The continental climate, mellowed by the influences of the Mediterranean Sea, and the sustainable viticulture practices used to care for the vines ultimately shape the elegant personality of this select aged white wine.

The grapes are pressed very gently, the must ferments slowly in barrels at low temperature, and then the wine is aged for six months in 500-litre French oak barrels on its fine lees. As a white wine for cellaring, it is refined in the bottle and can be enjoyed at any time over the next few years thanks to its excellent natural acidity .

Vallejo Avenas Chardonnay 2020 is clean, bright and pale yellow. Its aroma is complex and quite intense, with predominant notes of ripe white fruit, pineapple, light citrus touches and hints of dried fruits. It is fresh and silky on the palate, with a certain unctuousness, good acidity and a structured, balanced mouthfeel leading to a long finish. Ripe notes of white fruit and a creamy sensation return in the aftertaste.
