Sericis Cepas Viejas Viognier, nuevo blanco de Murviedro para las mejores mesas
The new Sericis Cepas Viejas Viognier – a structured, silky white wine made for fine dining – will be presented at the wine show to be held in the Turia Gardens in Valencia from 21-25 April

Requena, 20 April, 2022 – Murviedro presents its new white wine made from the Viognier grape variety, with which it expands the Sericis range intended for haute cuisine restaurants and specialist shops.

This barrel-aged white brings the Sericis range to four references. It will accompany the Merseguera, Monastrell and Bobal varietal wines that already live up to the name of the range, which means “silky” in Latin. These are aromatic wines intended for fine dining, with a smooth palate, as was the intention of winemaker Juan José Muñoz when he selected his vineyards for the project entitled Cepas Viejas, which means Old Vines.

Viognier grapes have been chosen for the new Sericis because they produce a high glycerol content, achieving a wine of great structure, with a superb silky sensation on the palate that makes it perfect for fine dining. This is a minority varietal and the grape is little known even in the Rhone Valley, its place of origin. It is very delicate and sensitive to vine pests and diseases, so it requires highly attentive viticulture. However, the continentalised Mediterranean climate of our location, the chalky-clay soils of the plot and the remarkable altitude of 850 metres where it is grown organically have allowed us to achieve good results.

In the production of Sericis Cepas Viejas Viognier 2021, the grapes are pressed gently and the must ferments in new barrels, where the wine is aged for four months on its fine lees.

This aged Viognier is a beautiful very bright yellow in colour, tinged with green. Its aroma is intense, reminiscent of stone fruits, like peach and apricot, with elegant floral notes over a delicate mineral background. On the palate it is unctuous, feeling heavy in the mouth, with balanced acidity and a long, lingering finish.

An aromatic, flavourful, white wine with great personality, ideal to accompany salads, fish stews, fideuà, paellas, seafood and white meats. We recommend a serving temperature of around 8ºC. This is an organic wine suitable for vegans.

The shape of the Sericis wine bottle is special in itself, with well marked shoulders, wrapped in an understated, elegant label that envelops it almost entirely, with a look and feel reminiscent of old natural silk fabrics.

The capsule of the new Sericis Cepas Viejas Viognier is gold, while that of the Sericis Cepas Viejas Merseguera is satin green.

This first vintage of Sericis Cepas Viejas Viognier 2021 will be available for tasting at the Murviedro stand at the Traditional Wine, Cava, Liqueur and Food Show in the city of Valencia, which will take place at its usual location in the Turia Gardens, between Flores and Exposición bridges from Thursday 21 to Monday 25 April.
