Murviedro presents Finca El Serrano, the single-vineyard wine made from the most expressive dry-farmed Monastrell grapes in the Mediterranean Arc.
This is the fourth single-vineyard wine launched by the Valencian winery – the result of experience and research on interpreting the different structures of the subsoils of the plots, their environment and their orientation. All this determines how these factors together influence the nuances making a wine so special that it reflects its landscape with its aroma and flavour.
The plot from which the grapes for El Serrano are sourced covers an area of 5 hectares on the highest part of the estate, the poorest in nutrients: a stony glacis with limestone bedrock very close to the surface.
These Monastrell vines therefore produce fewer bunches, with highly concentrated sugar and acidity. According to Juan José Muñoz, technical director of Murviedro and creator of this wine, “the white limestone soil of the land at Villena reflects the sun’s rays through the lower part of the plant, resulting in very well-balanced fruit, and the wines they offer are fresher, with more moderate alcohol content than in other places”. The 2020 vintage was harvested on 4 October, at the optimum moment of ripeness, with no raisined berries, and it was possible to produce a limited edition of 9,978 bottles.

Tasting note
Finca El Serrano is a beautiful, intense red colour, characteristic of its variety, with purple tones. Its aroma is highly intense, featuring ripe fruit, with balsamic and mineral notes of limestone earth, on a very elegant background of toasted oak which does not stand out excessively after six months’ ageing in French oak barrels and foudres. On the palate it is fleshy and complex, with an unctuous mouthfeel, balanced tannins and a roasted finish. A serious, elegant, deep, evocative wine that is bound to succeed at the best tables with its magnificent structure and inviting Mediterranean character.
Berliner Wine Trophy welcomes Finca El Serrano with a Gold Medal.
A few weeks before this single-vineyard wine was released on to the market, it took part in the Berliner Wine Trophy international wine competition Summer Tasting in Germany, where it stood out from the wines in its category and won its first Gold Medal.
