The Santerra Brut Chardonnay cava by Murviedro, awarded with a gold medal, is the only Spanish and Valencian cava included in the international wine competition Effervescents du Monde TOP 10.
Valencia, Novembre 24th, 2017.- This autumn has been full of celebrations for Bodegas Murviedro; in October it inaugurated its new cava museum to coincide with its 90th Anniversary and November has arrived with a multitude of prizes, the most prominent of which is the gold medal awarded to its red wine Murviedro Cepas Viejas 2014 (100% Bobal) at the Guilbert & Gaillard international competition in Paris.
This gold medal is the fifth addition to this select red wine’s collection of awards, produced under the DOP UR (protected designation of origin Utiel-Requena) and from a selection of grapes grown from the old vines of Bobal. Murviedro’s commitment to the local variety has resulted in a rating of Excellent by the 2018 Peñín Guide with 91 points.
Likewise, the winery’s Santerra Brut Chardonnay (100% Chardonnay) has been recognised as a Top cava in the USA and awarded with a gold medal. This award makes it the only Spanish and Valencian cava included in the international wine competition Effervescents du Monde TOP 10, celebrated from the 15th to 17th of November in Dijon (France).
But this was not the only prize that the winery received in France, in this same competition Bodegas Murviedro was also awarded with two silver medals, for its Arts de Luna and Los Monteros Brut cavas, thus confirming the winery’s cavas top positioning.
Murviedro, well known internationally in the wine industry, this year celebrates its 90th anniversary. The quality of the wines from Murviedro has resulted in the winery being ranked among the top 15 Spanish wineries in the world rankings of the World Association, Wines & Spirits, Writers and Journalists (WAWWJ), occupying 11th place as a result of the medals and awards won by their wines in the main international wine competitions. 90% of their wines are exported, their key markets being the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia and Japan. The winery also continues to pursue its objective to increase its presence in the national market.
