The winery received a ‘Gran Oro’ for the DNA Murviedro Signature EKO 2015 and a Gold Medal for the DNA Murviedro Classic Monastrell 2016
Valencia, 01 March 2017 – Bodegas Murviedro, the Spanish subsidiary of the Schenk Group, has seen two of its main single variety wines, made from Monastrell, win awards at the Monovino 2017 competition. This is the only competition in Spain dedicated exclusively to wines made from a single variety of at least 85% of the same variety.
The competition took place on the 17th February at the Escuela Española de Cata, which is in the Salamanca district of Madrid. The tasting was done by a jury of some of the most prestigious names in the world of wine. The average score in the competition was 78.23, demonstrating the very high quality of the single variety wines.
The wines made from Monastrell stood out for their high quality. Bodegas Murviedro received a Gran Oro for their organic red wine, with a ruby colour and ripe red fruit flavours, DNA Murviedro Signature EKO 2015 and a Gold Medal for DNA Murviedro Classic Monastrell 2016, with its red cherry colour and intense aromas of ripe red fruits. Both wines are from the DOP Valencia.
Murviedro is a subsidiary of the Schenk Group, a major wine producer dating back to 1927, well known internationally in the wine industry. The quality of the wines from Murviedro has resulted in the winery being ranked among the top 15 best Spanish wineries in the world rankings of the World Association, Wines & Spirits, Writers and Journalists (WAWWJ), occupying 11th place as a result of the medals and awards won by their wines in the main international wine competitions. 90% of their wines are exported, the key markets being the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia and Japan, while the winery continues to pursue its objective to grow its presence in the national market.
